The province and its wonders
The province of Parma boasts about ten different parks and protected areas equipped with museums, visitor centres, educational and receptive structures. Among the most important , Parco dei Cento Laghi in Val Parma, the regional Parco dei Boschi Carrega, in Sala Baganza, and the Fauna Oasis in Monte Fuso.
The Province also offers a number of historic routes for enthusiasts of medieval castle, a heritage of the various lordships (signorie) that ruled the city between the 12th and 13th century: the Scaligeri, the Visconti and then the Sforza. The most important are: the Bardi Fortress, the Castle of Torrechiara, the Rocca of Fontanellato and the Royal Palace of Colorno, but you can visit many more located between Bassa Parma and the Apennines.
